Beds and Their Many Sizes and Styles

Beds and Their Many Sizes and Styles

A good bed is one of the greatest things a person can own in life. We spend a third of our day in bed, getting that wonderful thing called sleep, so why not have a bed that makes you want to run and dive under the covers? (Not to mention a bed that will withstand your flying leaps in excitement over bedtime).

Most of us have experienced the self-destruction that comes from having to sleep in subpar conditions either in the dorm, on a friend's floor or whatever else, but if you find yourself in a nice, carport living condition, it is very suggested you get a bed to match that lifestyle. Here are a few things to think when purchasing a bed:

Size

California King: The beast of beds, a California King is 72 inches in breadth and 84 inches in length, truly made for a king, a very tall king.

Eastern King: Alright, most of us know this as a regular old king bed, but its lawful name is Eastern King, and it is sort of a fun label - so let's use it! Easter (normal) kind beds are 76 inches by 80 inches, production it worthy competition of the California king.

Queen: Not to be pushed aside by the kings, the queen size bed is a solid 60 inches by 80 inches. The queen is proud to adapt any height while promoting fitness and leanness.

Full: excellent for single population and small guest bedrooms that will occasionally have to adapt guests that come as a couple, the full (or double) size bed is 54 inches wide and 74 inches long.

Twin: This is a good bed until you are over 18 and no longer broke. At 39 inches wide and 75 inches long, don't expect to comfortably sleep more than one adolescent.

Style

Panel: Panel beds are a great, functional bed frame that comes in a variety of styles to suit any bedroom. Panels hold the mattress or mattresses and depending on which panel bed you choose, it may contain a foot board.

Platform: Platform beds are a lot like what they sound like. They contain a hard, flat face where you will put your mattress contribution firm support. Most other beds require a box spring mattress to give enough support, but platform beds are fully functional with just a regular mattress. Typically platform beds are closer to the ground than panel beds.

Canopy: Canopy beds consist of four tall posts in each projection of the bed and something that connects them on top. They don't have to be decked out with frilly linens, but often are designed for adults with tasteful metalwork. Canopy beds are inspired by the early 16th century bed styles when drapes were used to keep out cold drafts that frequented the castles and homes.

Poster: Poster beds are just a notch under canopy beds and are characterized by their four tall posts. When you hear "four-post bed" you know you are finding at a poster bed.

Slat: Slat beds are stylized with headboards and/or foot boards that feature slates or bars as part of the design.

Sleigh: Sleigh beds are hard to miss with their scrolled headboards and/or foot boards. This is a very domineering style and an excellent way to show off pristine wood veneer in your room.

This is just a basic guide to beds, but leading details to remember when you are shopping. Knowing that platform beds do not require a box spring can be a great tip for recovery money in the same way that if you live in a drafty old castle you will know a canopy bed is your best option. There is an wonderful variety of beds with separate styles, looks and details, so be sure to shop around until you found the excellent bed where you will comfortably lay your head each night.
